On April 6, 2003, the North Shore Animal League America (NSAL) presented
Kristine and Dakota with the NSAL Animal Heroism Award. The award
was presented at the Oakland, California Zoo as part of the North Shore
Animal League's Tour for Life which is
the world’s largest cooperative animal adoption event. Crawford
was honored for her exemplary service in the community because of her
work with disabled children, the educational programs
she does for children's groups (Safety Around Dogs and Hug-Tree) and
her search and rescue work.
The Oakland Zoo is one of the many stops
the North Shore Animal League’s 35-foot long mobile adoption units
is making as it traverses it’s way through 18 states on a 3,500
mile trek from the San Francisco Bay Area back to New York in the month
of April. The NSAL's adoption vehicles are travelling throughout the
United States working hand in hand with nearly 100 local animal organizations
to find loving homes for the orphaned dogs and cats they shelter. The Tour For Life also announces the League’s
annual international Pet Adoptathon on May 3rd and 4th which unites
nearly 2000 animal organizations working to find homes for all the dogs,
cats, puppies, and kittens in their care. |
