American Red Cross Real Hero Award
May 2008
On May 21, 2008, over 700 corporate and community leaders from the Silicon Valley came together to celebrate the heroism of the recipients of the 2008 American Red Cross - Santa Clara Valley Chapter Real Hero Awards. The award ceremony was held at the San Jose Doubletree Hotel and honored "individuals in the community who have assisted others during an emergency situation or individuals who live their lives as everyday heroes by showing that they care for those around them."
The six award winners (four indivduals and two teams) were each nominated by the public and later selected by a group of community leaders because they exhibit true selflessness and they embody the principles and ideals of the Red Cross. "We were so touched by the many heart-warming stories that came from this year's nominees," said Peter Hero, Honorary Event Chair. "These men and women have done so much for our community. They reflect outstanding humanitarianism and we are proud to honor such great individuals and organizations."
The six award categories were Law Enforcement Hero, Medical Hero, Good Samaritan Hero, Animal Rescue Hero, Spirit of the Red Cross Hero, and Education Hero. Kris Crawford and her pit bulls Cheyenne, Dakota and Tahoe were the recipients of the Education Hero award.
